Overview

ViperaTAb is a monospecific antivenom developed by MicroPharm for the treatment of envenomation caused by the European adder (*Vipera berus*). It consists of ovine-derived Fab antibody fragments produced from sheep hyperimmunized against *Vipera berus* venom. The therapeutic functions by binding to and neutralizing the toxic components of the venom, including hemorrhagic and neurotoxic proteins, thereby counteracting systemic and local effects such as hypotension, shock, and tissue damage. Administered intravenously, ViperaTAb has been used clinically in Scandinavia for approximately 20 years and became the primary antivenom choice in the UK around 2012. It is characterized by high clinical efficacy and a very low adverse reaction rate of approximately 0.5%.
