Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VIPERFAV is a polyvalent equine-derived antivenom composed of F(ab')2 antibody fragments. It is specifically designed to neutralize the venom of the three most common European vipers: *Vipera aspis*, *Vipera berus*, and *Vipera ammodytes*. The drug is produced by pepsin digestion of whole IgG from horses immunized with these specific viper venoms, a process that removes the Fc portion of the antibody to reduce the risk of Fc-mediated adverse reactions while maintaining high neutralizing potency. VIPERFAV is indicated for the treatment of severe snake envenoming caused by these species and is currently marketed by MicroPharm, having historically been developed and manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur. It holds a Marketing Authorisation from the French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM).
