Overview

Viprelaks is an approved herbal sedative and spasmolytic formulation developed by SPEY in collaboration with Vegapharm. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of nervousness, anxiety, and mild sleep disorders such as insomnia. The formulation is composed of three active botanical extracts: Tagar extract (Valeriana wallichii), Pudina extract (Mentha piperita), and Lemon Balm extract (Melissa officinalis). These components act synergistically to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality. Specifically, Valeriana wallichii and Melissa officinalis modulate the GABAergic system by acting as positive allosteric modulators of GABA-A receptors and inhibiting GABA transaminase (4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase), thereby increasing GABA levels in the brain. Mentha piperita acts as a smooth muscle relaxant and spasmolytic by blocking L-type voltage-gated calcium channels. Viprelaks is marketed in several countries, including Cambodia, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan, as an oral capsule.
