Overview

Viqualine is an investigational antidepressant and anxiolytic drug that was never marketed. It acts as a potent and selective serotonin releasing agent (SRA) and serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SRI), similar to para-chloroamphetamine. Additionally, viqualine displaces diazepam from the GABAA receptor, producing benzodiazepine-like effects as a positive allosteric modulator at the benzodiazepine site of the GABAA receptor. The compound was primarily researched for its potential in treating alcoholism, major depressive disorder (including treatment-resistant depression), and for its effects on reducing alcohol intake and body weight[1][2][3][4][5].
