VIR-1949 is an investigational therapeutic vaccine developed to treat human papillomavirus (HPV)-related high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) and cancers. It leverages a T cell-based viral vector platform, specifically using human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) as the vaccine vector, with the goal of eliciting robust, antigen-specific effector memory T cell responses against HPV. The intent is to generate a long-lasting immune response capable of not only treating existing disease but also clearing underlying HPV infection to prevent recurrence locally or elsewhere in the body.
