Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VIR-2482 is an investigational, fully human immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) monoclonal antibody engineered for the prophylaxis of influenza A. It targets a highly conserved epitope on the stem region of the influenza A hemagglutinin (HA) protein, neutralizing all major strains of influenza A that have arisen since 1918. The antibody is administered intramuscularly and incorporates Xtend technology to extend its half-life, allowing a single dose to potentially provide protection for an entire flu season. Unlike traditional vaccines, VIR-2482 does not rely on the recipient's immune system to generate protective antibodies, making it suitable as a universal prophylactic against influenza A. The drug was derived from MEDI8852 and has demonstrated favorable safety and tolerability in clinical trials[1][2][3][4][5].
