Overview

VIR201 is an experimental DNA vaccine that utilizes Co-X-Gene technology, in which HIV and human genetic material are grafted onto a harmless fowlpox virus. The approach is designed to stimulate an immune response against HIV by introducing genetic material encoding HIV antigens into the body via a viral vector. This vaccine candidate represents a gene-based immunization strategy for the prevention or treatment of HIV infection[1].
