Overview
VIRACEA is a proprietary topical antiviral formulation developed by Destiny BioMediX Corp and marketed by Merix Pharmaceutical Corporation. It consists of a combination of benzalkonium chloride (0.13%), an FDA-approved antimicrobial antiseptic, and phytochemicals derived from *Echinacea purpurea* (purple coneflower). The formulation is specifically designed to target herpes simplex virus (HSV) strains, including HSV-1 and HSV-2, and has demonstrated efficacy against both acyclovir-susceptible and acyclovir-resistant strains in laboratory testing. VIRACEA is the patented formula used in the over-the-counter product RELEEV 1 Day Cold Sore Symptom Treatment, which is indicated for the rapid treatment of cold sores and fever blisters. Clinical trials have shown that the formulation can heal cold sores in as little as one day.
