Viri-01

Viri-01 is an investigational inhaled therapy being developed by Arivin Therapeutics for the treatment of respiratory infections in cystic fibrosis and non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. It is an engineered macrocycle that employs a novel anti-virulence mechanism of action, targeting bacterial virulence factors rather than acting as a traditional bacteriostatic or bactericidal antibiotic. Specifically, Viri-01 neutralizes bacterial toxins and inhibits the formation of biofilms and extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), which are critical bacterial defense mechanisms. The drug is designed to target Gram-negative bacteria, including *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, *Acinetobacter baumannii*, and *Klebsiella pneumoniae*, and is administered via inhalation to directly target the site of infection.
