Overview

Virocomb-E is a combination antiretroviral medication used for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It is a kit formulation that contains three active pharmaceutical ingredients: lamivudine (150mg), zidovudine (300mg), and efavirenz (600mg). Lamivudine and zidovudine are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that act as competitive inhibitors and chain terminators of viral DNA synthesis. Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that binds allosterically to the HIV-1 reverse transcriptase enzyme, inducing a conformational change that inhibits its catalytic activity. By combining these two classes of inhibitors, Virocomb-E effectively suppresses viral replication, reduces the patient's viral load, and helps to restore immune function as evidenced by increased CD4+ T-cell counts.
