Overview
Virogin Biotech's Monkeypox mRNA vaccine is an investigational prophylactic agent designed to prevent infection by the Monkeypox virus (MPXV). The vaccine candidate utilizes a dual-technology mRNA platform that incorporates both conventional mRNA and self-amplifying RNA (saRNA) to encode viral antigens. This approach is intended to enhance the magnitude and duration of the immune response compared to traditional mRNA platforms. By delivering genetic instructions for viral antigens, the vaccine stimulates the host's immune system to produce protective antibodies and T-cell responses. As of early 2024, the program is in the IND-enabling phase of development, with Virogin Biotech retaining worldwide rights to the candidate.
