Viroshield Mouth Spray

Viroshield Mouth Spray is an over-the-counter (OTC) enzyme-based oral spray developed and marketed by Zydus Lifesciences (under its German Remedies division) in India, utilizing a technology originally developed by Enzymatica (marketed globally as ColdZyme). Formulated with a combination of cod trypsin (a cold-adapted serine protease) and glycerol, Viroshield forms a transient, hyperosmotic barrier on the pharyngeal mucosa when sprayed onto the throat. The glycerol component physically traps viral pathogens, while the trypsin enzyme actively cleaves and deactivates viral surface proteins, preventing them from binding to and infecting host cells. It is used preventively or at the early onset of symptoms to reduce viral load (including SARS-CoV-2 and common cold coronaviruses/rhinoviruses) and shorten the duration of upper respiratory tract infections.
