Overview

ViruPrev is an enzyme-based nasal spray being developed by ZymIQ Biopharma, a subsidiary of ZymIQ Technology. The product is designed to create a protective mucosal barrier layer inside the nasal cavity, which serves as the primary entry point for many respiratory viruses. By reinforcing the body's natural defenses, ViruPrev aims to prevent or reduce infections caused by SARS-CoV-2, endemic coronaviruses, influenza, and rhinoviruses (the common cold). The technology utilizes patented enzyme-based barrier solutions and is being developed under the EU Medical Device Regulation framework. As of late 2024, the product is in preclinical development with patent protection extending to 2043.
