Virus inactivated plasma is human blood plasma that has undergone specific processes to render any contaminating viruses non-infectious. These processes are designed to reduce the risk of transmitting viral pathogens such as HIV, hepatitis A, B, and C, and parvoviruses through transfusion or use in cell culture and biomanufacturing. Common methods for viral inactivation include solvent/detergent treatment, pasteurization (heating), acidic pH treatment, ultraviolet (UV) irradiation (sometimes with riboflavin), and other validated chemical or physical procedures. Virus inactivated plasma is used both clinically for transfusion purposes and industrially as a supplement for cell culture media or component of bioassays. The process ensures safety by significantly reducing the risk of viral transmission while maintaining the functional properties of the plasma proteins[1][2][4].
