Overview

VIS296 is a preclinical monoclonal antibody developed by Visterra (a subsidiary of Otsuka Pharmaceutical) that targets C3 convertase. It is designed to inhibit the activation of the complement system, a part of the innate immune system that, when dysregulated, contributes to various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. By specifically targeting C3 convertase, VIS296 blocks the central amplification step of the complement cascade, preventing the cleavage of C3 and the subsequent formation of downstream effectors like C3a, C3b, and the membrane attack complex (MAC). This therapeutic approach is being explored for a broad range of complement-mediated diseases where overactivation of the complement pathway drives tissue damage and pathology.
