Overview

VIS676 is an investigational monoclonal antibody developed by Visterra, a subsidiary of Otsuka Pharmaceutical, currently in preclinical development for the treatment of complement-mediated diseases. The drug is designed to target C3 convertase, a central enzyme complex in the complement system responsible for the cleavage of C3 into C3a and C3b. By inhibiting C3 convertase, VIS676 aims to block the amplification of the complement cascade and the subsequent formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC), thereby preventing the inflammatory and tissue-damaging effects associated with complement dysregulation. This approach targets a critical convergence point of the classical, lectin, and alternative complement pathways, potentially offering a broad therapeutic application across various autoimmune and inflammatory conditions.
