Overview
Visbiome is a high-potency, multi-strain probiotic formulation containing eight specific strains of live bacteria, including Lactobacilli, Bifidobacteria, and Streptococcus thermophilus. Developed by Professor Claudio De Simone, it is marketed as a medical food for the dietary management of gastrointestinal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcerative colitis, and pouchitis. The formulation works by modulating the gut microbiota, improving intestinal barrier function, and reducing systemic inflammation. It has been extensively studied in clinical trials for various metabolic and inflammatory disorders, including adolescent and maternal obesity, gestational diabetes, and neonatal sepsis. Visbiome is considered a generic version of the original formulation previously marketed under the brand name VSL#3.
