Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ViscoCell is an injectable hydrogel-based delivery platform developed by Likarda for the treatment of osteoarthritis. It utilizes Likarda's proprietary Core-Shell Spherification (CSS) technology to encapsulate therapeutic agents, such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) or biologics, within hydrogel microbeads. The hydrogel is specifically engineered to match the viscoelastic properties of synovial fluid, providing both viscosupplementation and a protective environment for the delivered cells. This system aims to improve cell retention and therapeutic efficacy within the joint, promoting cartilage repair and reducing inflammation. In preclinical studies, stem cells delivered via ViscoCell showed improved outcomes in osteoarthritic models, resulting in the restoration of healthy cartilage surfaces.
