Viscosine is a naturally occurring C-alkylated flavonoid (4',5,7-trihydroxy-3,6-dimethoxyflavone) isolated from the medicinal plant *Dodonaea viscosa*. It is a small molecule research compound currently being investigated as a potential lead for the development of antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic therapeutics. Its primary biological activity involves the inhibition of microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1), which subsequently reduces the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a key mediator of fever and inflammation. Preclinical studies in animal models have also demonstrated that viscosine possesses hepatoprotective properties and acts as a lipoxygenase inhibitor. Furthermore, in silico studies have suggested potential cytotoxic activity against cancer cells, although it remains in the early research and preclinical stages.
