Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Visionex is a specialized nutraceutical formulation developed by USANA Health Sciences, primarily indicated for the maintenance of long-term ocular health and the preservation of visual performance. The product's efficacy is derived from a synergistic blend of the macular carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, which are selectively deposited in the macula lutea of the eye. These compounds function as optical filters for high-energy blue light and as potent antioxidants that quench singlet oxygen and reduce lipid peroxidation in the photoreceptor outer segments. The inclusion of bilberry extract (rich in anthocyanosides), vitamin C, and zinc provides additional metabolic support and enhances the endogenous antioxidant defense system within the retinal pigment epithelium and the lens, helping to maintain macular pigment optical density (MPOD) and protect against age-related oxidative damage.
