Overview

Vismodegib + cytarabine is an investigational combination regimen composed of two distinct pharmaceutical agents: vismodegib, a small molecule inhibitor of the Hedgehog signaling pathway, and cytarabine, an antimetabolite chemotherapeutic agent. Vismodegib acts primarily by inhibiting the transmembrane protein smoothened homologue (SMO), resulting in blockade of Hedgehog pathway signaling, which is implicated in the pathogenesis of certain cancers such as basal cell carcinoma[5]. Cytarabine is a pyrimidine nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis, mainly used in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia and other hematological malignancies. There are no known approved indications or completed advanced trials for the combination of vismodegib and cytarabine as of the current date.
