Overview

Visnadine is a natural vasodilator classified as an angular pyranocoumarin, first isolated from the plant Ammi visnaga (bishop's weed), which has been used in traditional Egyptian medicine for its spasmolytic and cardiovascular effects[1][2][3]. It acts primarily by inhibiting contractile responses mediated by calcium entry through L-type calcium channel, resulting in relaxation of smooth muscle and widening of blood vessels[3][6]. This mechanism improves circulation, including microcirculation in small blood vessels[5]. Visnadine has been investigated for use in treating angina pectoris, peripheral vasculopathies, and as a topical agent to enhance regional vascularization. A notable application is the ReFeel spray (IDI Integratori Dietetici Italiani), developed for vulvar use to improve sexual function and local vascular response in women with or without female sexual dysfunction; clinical studies have shown it to be well tolerated with positive effects on sexual function[3][6][8].
