Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Visovanq** is a sterile ophthalmic ointment formulation of vancomycin, an antibiotic, developed by Eyevance Pharmaceuticals for topical ocular use. Vancomycin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to the D-Ala-D-Ala terminus of cell wall precursor units, preventing peptidoglycan polymerization and leading to bacterial cell death. It targets serious gram-positive bacterial infections, particularly methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA), in the eye, such as bacterial keratitis or conjunctivitis, where systemic antibiotics may be insufficient. Eyevance, formed in 2017 and later acquired by Santen (with Visovanq carved out), focuses on topical ophthalmic products for ocular surface and anterior segment conditions.[4][6][8]
