Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Visuflur is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution developed and marketed by Bioquest Pharmaceuticals. It contains Fluorescein Sodium, a diagnostic fluorescent dye, and Lignocaine Hydrochloride (also known as Lidocaine), a local anesthetic of the amide type. The product is specifically formulated for use in ophthalmic diagnostic procedures, most notably Goldmann applanation tonometry, where the anesthetic numbs the cornea and the dye allows for the visualization of the tear film under cobalt blue light. Lignocaine works by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby preventing the conduction of nerve impulses and providing rapid surface anesthesia. Fluorescein Sodium serves as a tracer that stains damaged corneal tissue and facilitates the measurement of intraocular pressure.
