Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VISUPRIME is a commercially available ophthalmic solution developed primarily as an antimicrobial eye drop for reducing conjunctival bacterial load. It has demonstrated broad-spectrum **antibacterial** activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Staphylococcus epidermidis*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, *Escherichia coli*, and *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. Additionally, it exhibits **antiviral** activity, notably against herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1). Its mechanism is largely nonselective, providing empirical, broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection. VISUPRIME has been studied as prophylaxis in patients undergoing intravitreal anti-VEGF injections and cataract surgery to reduce the risk of ocular infections. The product is marketed and manufactured by VISUfarma SpA, an Italian ophthalmic pharmaceutical company[3][4][5].
