Overview

VITAMAC is an antioxidant nutraceutical formulation developed by the Medical University of Vienna to investigate the effects of oxidative stress on retinal hemodynamics. It consists of a specific combination of vitamins, minerals, and botanical extracts, including lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, copper, selenium, Ginkgo biloba, flavonoids, fish oil, and alpha-lipoic acid. The supplement is designed to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) and has been studied in randomized, placebo-controlled trials using an endotoxin (LPS)-induced systemic inflammation model in healthy humans to determine its impact on retinal vascular reactivity and systemic inflammatory responses.
