Vitamin A-modified melanin nanoparticles are an experimental **theranostic nanoparticle platform** for hepatic fibrosis. The platform conjugates vitamin A to melanin nanoparticles to preferentially accumulate in hepatic stellate cells, which physiologically store vitamin A and become activated collagen-producing cells during fibrosis. Melanin provides near-infrared absorption, photoacoustic contrast, antioxidant activity, and photothermal conversion; near-infrared irradiation enables low-temperature photothermal therapy intended to suppress activated stellate cells, reduce collagen deposition, and restore liver architecture while photoacoustic imaging monitors nanoparticle localization and treatment. The reported evidence is preclinical and includes animal-model studies of hepatic fibrosis.
