Overview

Vitamin B12 + vitamin D is a combination dietary supplement composed of vitamin B12 (most commonly as cyanocobalamin) and vitamin D (most commonly as cholecalciferol, or vitamin D3). Both are essential vitamins: vitamin B12 is necessary for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, and neurological function, while vitamin D plays a key role in calcium absorption and bone health. Combination products are formulated for patients with or at risk of deficiency in both vitamins, with the intention of supporting neurological, musculoskeletal, and general metabolic health. The mechanism of action is nutrient replacement: vitamin B12 acts as a coenzyme in DNA and methionine synthesis, while vitamin D enhances calcium and phosphate absorption via its action on the vitamin D receptor, affecting gene transcription in target tissues. Combination use may provide improved outcomes over single-nutrient supplementation in certain populations at risk for multiple deficiencies.
