Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vitamin C + zinc is a combination dietary supplement containing ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and the mineral zinc. Both nutrients play essential roles in immune function, antioxidant protection, and overall health. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant and supports collagen synthesis and immune defense. Zinc is crucial for immune cell development and function, DNA synthesis, wound healing, and also has antioxidant properties. This combination is commonly used to support the immune system and may help reduce the duration or severity of colds or other respiratory infections[2][5]. Clinical studies have shown mixed results regarding its efficacy for viral illnesses such as the common cold or COVID-19; some trials suggest modest benefit in reducing symptoms of rhinorrhea during colds[2], while others show no significant effect on symptom duration in COVID-19 patients[4]. The product is generally well tolerated but can cause gastrointestinal discomfort at high doses.
