Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Vitamin D3 B.O.N.** is an intramuscular injectable formulation of cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), a fat-soluble secosteroid prohormone manufactured by Haupt Pharma Livron as a fragrance-free, slightly yellow, transparent solution containing 200,000 IU per dose. It is designed to rapidly correct vitamin D deficiency by elevating serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels, with a single injection achieving ≥30 ng/mL in 46.4% of patients within 12 weeks and ≥73% after potential repeat dosing at 24 weeks in Korean adults, alongside reducing parathyroid hormone levels. Cholecalciferol is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D and then in the kidney to active 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol), which binds the vitamin D receptor to regulate calcium/phosphorus homeostasis, enhance intestinal absorption, promote renal reabsorption, mobilize bone minerals, and support bone mineralization, primarily indicated for vitamin D deficiency and related disorders like osteoporosis.
