Overview

Vitamin E + entecavir is a combination therapy used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. This combination represents an integrated approach where entecavir serves as the primary antiviral agent while vitamin E coating is used to enhance liver targeting and drug delivery.\n\nThe combination has been studied as a lipid polymer hybrid nanoplatform (LPH) where entecavir is loaded into nanoparticles with a vitamin E coating. This formulation aims to specifically deliver entecavir to liver macrophages, combining the benefits of both polymeric and lipid carriers. The vitamin E coating extends drug release and enhances liver targeting by providing more hydrophobic barriers for drug liberation[1].\n\nEntecavir itself is a guanine nucleoside analogue that inhibits all three steps in the viral replication process of hepatitis B virus. It works by interfering with the viral DNA polymerase, preventing the virus from multiplying[2].
