Vitapex

Vitapex is a premixed endodontic filling material composed of calcium hydroxide, iodoform, and silicone oil. It is primarily used in pediatric dentistry for the root canal treatment (pulpectomy) of primary (deciduous) teeth and for apexification in permanent teeth. The calcium hydroxide component (approximately 30%) provides a high pH environment (around 12) that is bactericidal and promotes the formation of a mineralized tissue barrier. Iodoform (approximately 40%) serves as a radiopaque agent and provides sustained antimicrobial properties. The silicone oil vehicle (approximately 22%) ensures the paste remains stable and flowable for easy delivery into the root canal. Vitapex is designed to be resorbable, matching the physiological resorption of primary tooth roots, which prevents interference with the eruption of permanent successors.
