Vitex doniana dichloromethane leaf extract is a plant-derived research compound extracted from the leaves of *Vitex doniana* Sweet (Verbenaceae), a medicinal plant traditionally used in Africa. The extract is obtained using dichloromethane as the extraction solvent and contains predominantly diterpenoids, steroids, phytosterols, and fatty acid esters, with γ-sitosterol being the most prevalent metabolite (41.75%). This small molecule natural product extract is being investigated in preclinical in vitro studies for potential anticancer properties, particularly against prostate cancer (DU-145 cells) and cervical cancer (HeLa cells). The extract has demonstrated cytotoxic effects and antiproliferative activity in cancer cell lines, with mechanisms involving the modulation of cancer-associated genes including the androgen receptor (AR), B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL-2), caspase-3, cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1), and tumor protein p53. Additionally, the dichloromethane fraction has been studied for antioxidant and hepatoprotective activities. It is currently an early-stage research compound without a brand name or regulatory approval.
