Vitex trifolia extract is a botanical extract derived from the *Vitex trifolia* plant, a species traditionally utilized in Chinese medicine. It is currently being investigated for its multi-target neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties, particularly in the context of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and gut-brain axis dysfunction. The extract contains numerous bioactive compounds (approximately 27 identified via HPLC) that modulate several critical signaling pathways. Its mechanism of action involves the activation of the PI3K/Akt/GSK-3β and AMPK signaling pathways, which collectively work to inhibit the accumulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) and the hyperphosphorylation of tau proteins. Furthermore, the extract demonstrates the ability to reduce oxidative stress, maintain mitochondrial membrane potential, and inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity.
