Overview

Vitrebond is a light-cured, resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) dental liner and base material. It is primarily used as a protective barrier under dental restorations (such as composite, amalgam, ceramic, and metal) to protect the dental pulp and reduce post-operative sensitivity. The material consists of a powder-liquid system: the liquid contains a polyalkenoic acid copolymer (acrylic and itaconic acids), and the powder consists of a fluoroaluminosilicate glass. Vitrebond is characterized by its ability to form a strong chemical bond to dentin, providing a seal against microleakage, and its sustained release of fluoride, which promotes the remineralization of affected tooth structure. In clinical research, such as trials conducted by Cairo University, it has been evaluated for indirect pulp treatment in deep carious lesions of primary molars, demonstrating high clinical and radiographic success rates.
