Vivecon (MPC-9055) is an investigational small-molecule maturation inhibitor developed by Myriad Genetics for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It functions by binding to the HIV-1 gag polyprotein precursor, the primary structural protein involved in viral assembly and budding. This binding specifically disrupts the final protease-mediated cleavage step between the capsid protein (p24) and the spacer peptide 1 (SP1), resulting in the release of immature, noninfectious virions that are unable to infect new host cells. Designed for oral administration, Vivecon demonstrated potent anti-viral activity in preclinical models with an IC50 of less than 10 nanomolar. Although it successfully completed Phase 1 clinical trials and advanced into Phase 2a, Myriad Genetics discontinued its maturation inhibitor program in 2010, and the drug was never approved for clinical use.
