Overview

VivescOs is an investigational autologous cell therapy and tissue-engineered living bone substitute developed by IsoTis. It consists of patient-derived, bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that are expanded ex vivo and cultured on a biomaterial scaffold to create a living, osteogenic bone construct. VivescOs was primarily evaluated in a clinical feasibility study in the Netherlands for the reconstruction of intra-oral osseous defects prior to dental implant placement. However, development was halted after the product demonstrated limited clinical bone formation in patients, despite showing osteogenic activity in preclinical mouse ectopic bone formation assays.
