ViviGen is a cellular bone matrix (CBM) allograft developed by LifeNet Health and marketed by DePuy Synthes. It is a Human Cells, Tissues, and Cellular and Tissue-Based Product (HCT/P) designed to support bone repair and fusion by providing three essential elements: an osteoconductive scaffold, osteoinductive signals, and osteogenic cells. Unlike many other cellular allografts that rely on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), ViviGen contains cryopreserved, lineage-committed bone cells (osteoblasts, osteocytes, and bone lining cells) that are already programmed to form bone. It is primarily utilized in spinal fusion procedures, such as Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF) and Extreme Lateral Interbody Fusion (XLIF), and other orthopedic surgeries as an alternative to autograft or recombinant bone morphogenetic proteins.
