Overview
VLA1555 is a single-shot, live-attenuated chikungunya virus (CHIKV) vaccine candidate developed by Instituto Butantan in collaboration with Valneva SE. It is a technology transfer of Valneva's approved vaccine VLA1553 (brand name IXCHIQ®), specifically adapted for local lyophilization and packaging by Butantan for use in Brazil and other Latin American or low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The vaccine works by eliciting a protective immune response against the chikungunya virus through the administration of a live-attenuated strain. It is currently under regulatory review by Brazil's ANVISA and is being evaluated in Phase 3b clinical trials, including studies on co-administration with the Butantan live-attenuated dengue vaccine (Butantan-DV).
