Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Virothera Pharmaceuticals is developing a nucleic acid-based immunotherapy using its proprietary Virus Like Membranes (VLM) platform. This specific program targets the C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5) for the treatment of breast cancer. The VLM technology utilizes non-replicating, non-integrating viral-like particles to deliver DNA or RNA intended to modulate the immune system or directly target oncogenic pathways. In breast cancer, CCR5 signaling is associated with tumor progression, metastasis, and the recruitment of immunosuppressive cells to the tumor microenvironment; therefore, targeting this receptor aims to inhibit these processes. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
