VLP-IL-31 is a virus-like particle (VLP)-based conjugate vaccine developed by Saiba Biotech for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. The vaccine consists of the Interleukin-31 (IL-31) antigen covalently coupled to VLPs derived from the cucumber mosaic virus (CuMV), which incorporate universal T-cell epitopes to enhance immunogenicity. By inducing the production of endogenous neutralizing antibodies against IL-31—a key cytokine responsible for pruritus (itching) and skin inflammation—the vaccine aims to provide long-term relief from the symptoms of atopic dermatitis. While the technology has been validated in veterinary models for canine atopic dermatitis, the human candidate is currently in preclinical development under a licensing agreement with Allergy Therapeutics.
