Overview

VLP-Polio is a next-generation polio vaccine candidate based on virus-like particles (VLPs) that mimic the outer protein shell of the poliovirus but lack viral genetic material, making them non-infectious. These VLPs are designed to induce an immune response similar to traditional inactivated polio vaccines (IPVs) without the risk of causing disease or requiring high-level biosafety containment during production. Research has demonstrated that VLPs produced in yeast and insect cells can elicit neutralizing antibody responses equivalent to or better than current IPVs, and thermostabilized variants have been developed for improved stability. The primary indication is prevention of poliomyelitis (polio). The technology aims to provide a safer, more affordable, and globally accessible alternative for polio immunization[1][2][3][4][5].
