Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VLPCOV-04 is a monovalent self-amplifying “replicon” RNA vaccine developed as a booster for COVID-19, specifically targeting the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2. It utilizes a replicon RNA platform, which allows for amplification of the RNA within cells to enhance antigen expression and immune response. The vaccine is designed to induce strong immunogenicity with lower doses compared to conventional mRNA vaccines. VLPCOV-04 is being developed by VLP Therapeutics and has entered Phase 3 clinical trials in Japan as of December 2023[1][3]. The mechanism of action involves stimulating an immune response against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, thereby providing protection against COVID-19[2].
