VLPM-01 is a pre-erythrocytic malaria vaccine candidate developed by VLP Therapeutics. It utilizes a proprietary inserted alphavirus virus-like particle (i-αVLP) platform to deliver the circumsporozoite protein (CSP) antigen of Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible for most cases of severe malaria in humans. The vaccine is adjuvanted with alum (alhydrogel) to enhance immunogenicity. Its mechanism of action is immunostimulation, aiming to induce an immune response that prevents infection at the liver stage before parasites enter red blood cells. Clinical development has included Phase I and II trials assessing safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy using controlled human malaria infection models in healthy, malaria-naïve adults[1][2][3][4][5][7].
