The therapy consists of a cDNA encoding the gp91^phox^ subunit, which is a component of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase. By delivering this genetic material, VM106 aims to restore or modulate NADPH oxidase activity in patients with defective or deficient enzyme function, addressing the underlying cause of chronic granulomatous disease. The product was classified as a new molecular entity and was not granted orphan drug status. Development has been discontinued following withdrawal from clinical trials[1][2].
