Overview

**VMK223** is a heat-treated extract derived from the cell wall of *Bifidobacterium breve*, classified as a postbiotic. It primarily consists of a low molecular weight storage polysaccharide (including β-glucans) and is designed to improve immune and endocrine markers of intestinal epithelial barrier function[1][3]. VMK223 interacts with toll-like receptors (TLR2 and TLR4) on intestinal epithelial cells, potentially modulating the function of the intestinal barrier by limiting gut permeability and preventing microbial translocation[1]. Supplementation with VMK223 has demonstrated significant reductions in systemic inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein [CRP], interleukin 6 [IL-6], tumor necrosis factor alpha [TNF-α]), reduced cortisol, and improved levels of sex hormones (progesterone, oestradiol, estriol, DHEA) and human growth hormone in clinical studies, especially in females over age 40[1][3]. The extract is orally administered and may be promising for conditions linked to gut dysbiosis, inflammation, and hormone imbalance[1][3].
