Overview

vMyx-M135KO-GFP is an attenuated, recombinant oncolytic myxoma virus (MYXV) in which the M135R gene (encoding a cell surface immunomodulatory protein) has been deleted and replaced with a green fluorescent protein (GFP) reporter gene under the control of a synthetic early/late viral promoter. The deletion of M135R severely attenuates the virus's pathogenesis in its natural European rabbit host, rendering it nonpathogenic to all known vertebrate hosts, while retaining or enhancing its selective oncolytic replication and cell-killing activity in human cancer cells. It was developed by Arizona State University and OncoMyx Therapeutics for the treatment of various cancers, including small-cell lung cancer, multiple myeloma, and breast cancer. However, development was discontinued when OncoMyx was operationally dissolved in 2022.
