Overview

vMyx-tdTr is a recombinant oncolytic myxoma virus (MYXV) engineered to express the tdTomato red fluorescent reporter protein. Myxoma virus is a rabbit-specific leporipoxvirus that exhibits a natural tropism for various human and murine cancer cells due to their frequent defects in antiviral signaling pathways, while remaining non-pathogenic in non-rabbit hosts. In preclinical oncology research, vMyx-tdTr is primarily utilized as a control vector to establish the baseline oncolytic activity of the myxoma platform and to track viral infection, replication, and spread within tumor tissues using fluorescence. While it lacks the therapeutic transgenes (such as IL-15) found in more advanced myxoma-based candidates, it retains the inherent ability to selectively infect and lyse tumor cells (oncolysis).
