Overview

VNT-101 is a novel investigational small molecule antiviral being developed for the treatment of seasonal influenza A infection. It acts as a direct-acting inhibitor targeting the influenza A nucleoprotein (NP), which plays a key role in viral replication and is common to all influenza A strains. By inhibiting this protein, VNT-101 aims to limit viral replication and potentially overcome resistance seen with current influenza therapeutics. The compound has demonstrated in vitro activity against both seasonal and highly pathogenic avian influenza strains, including H5N1 and H7N9, as well as against strains resistant to existing antivirals. The drug was originally in-licensed from Novartis by Via Nova Therapeutics, which is advancing it through clinical development[1][2][3][5][6][7][8].
