Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VNX003 is an improved oral formulation of pentosan polysulfate sodium (PPS) being developed by Vaneltix Pharma for the treatment of Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome (IC/BPS). Designed as a next-generation alternative to the current standard of care, Elmiron, VNX003 utilizes a small molecule approach to enhance drug absorption and bladder targeting. This optimized pharmacokinetic profile is intended to allow for lower therapeutic doses, thereby minimizing systemic exposure and reducing common gastrointestinal side effects associated with traditional PPS therapies. The drug's mechanism of action involves the protection and restoration of the bladder's glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer, which serves as a barrier to prevent irritating urinary solutes from penetrating the bladder wall and causing pain and inflammation.
